Breaking barriers. Building belief.
At Aspire Life, we believe every young person deserves to feel hopeful about their future. So many young people arrive at our mentoring service feeling disengaged, anxious, frustrated, alone or unsure. Aspire Life’s mentoring programme is designed to remove barriers to learning and help young people move forward with confidence.
We deliver bespoke mentoring packages from 1-15 hours per week, offered one-to-one or two-to-one, with regular group sessions to support peer connection and social development. Each programme begins with time. Time to build trust, understand the young person, and identify goals, interests and blocks to learning.
Mentoring focuses on real-life skills and motivation, using disguised learning, AQA units and practical activities such as cooking, creative projects, fitness, photography or sport. Progress is closely monitored and success is recognised, helping shift mindset and build momentum.
Mentors are thoughtfully matched to students, offering relevant experience and positive role modelling. Mentoring supports reintegration into mainstream education, or progression into further education, training or employment.
Referrals to Aspire Life’s alternative education mentoring service come via schools, local authorities or parents, including EOTAS and EHCP-funded packages. We support young people facing a variety of challenges: permanent exclusion (PEX), from looked-after (LAC) backgrounds, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Many of our students have Educational, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Mentoring FAQs
Our sessions run from 8:30-4:30. Timings for student sessions vary depending on the hours they need us for, e.g. 10 hours of funding a week may be broken down into 5, 2 hour sessions across the week 9:00-11:00
At Aspire Life, we like to base our ‘work’ around the student, whether this is following an AQA pack around the students interest, e.g. football. We also like to include Maths and English into our sessions at the level the student is working at. This may include worksheets or using these skills in day to day life.
